Chapel Hill, N.C. — One of the young women hit by the car of a University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill tennis player left the Triangle Thursday.
Carolyn Kubitschek, 21, was moved to an Asheville hospital to be closer to her family, her brother said.
Kubitschek and Casey LeSawyer were walking along North Columbia Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a car driven by Chris Kearney, 20, veered off the road and hit them. Kearney was charged with two counts of inflicting personal injury, felony hit-and-run causing personal injury and possessing a fake ID, along with one count each of driving while impaired and consuming alcohol under the age of 21.
While both women are listed in good condition, their family and friends say that definition can be deceiving. The women were severely hurt, suffered many broken bones, and face a long, hard recovery.
Both are expected to miss at least the first semester of what would be their senior year.
